April 29, 2017

Today we traveled from Rocky Harbour to Twillingate in Newfoundland (428 km). Twillingate is the capital of the icebergs. We want to see some more of them. Here all lakes are still frozen. The picture shows the bay of Twillingate. The ice is just slowly vanishing. Unfortunately, there was too much pack ice. Therefore we couldn't see much and big icebergs.

Today we traveled from North Sydney on Cape Breton Island to Cows Head on Newfoundland Island. For this, we took the ferry at North Sydney at midnight and slept on sleeping chairs on the ferry. We arrived at Port aux Basques at 7 am. From here we drove to Cow Head and back to our hotel in Rocky Harbour (382 km). Newfoundland is just waking up after the winter. There is still snow around and some lakes are still under ice. We saw already our first iceberg swimming in the sea and some caribous crossing the street as my picture shows.

Today we traveled from Antigonish to North Sydney on Cape Breton Island in Canada (342 km). We didn't take the shortest way but we did the Celtic Shores Coastal Trail and some of the Cabot Trail. The picture shows the beginning of the Cabot Trail on the west shore of the Cape Breton Island.

Today we traveled on the Marine Drive from Halifax to Antigonish (258 km). On the way, we visited Sherbrook a historic village. The picture shows a memorial and the church of this village.

Today we visited Halifax, Peggy's Cove and the Swissair MD111 crash memorial. The picture shows the clock tower, the landmark of Halifax.

April 24, 2017

Today we traveled from Hamburg in Germany through Frankfurt and Toronto to Halifax in Canada. The immigration process in Toronto was very tedious. I have never experienced something like this before. But now we are allowed to stay for 6 months in Canada. We arrived in Halifax with about 1.5 hours delay at 1 am. There was still someone who handed out our rental car. In the hotel, we arrived just before 2 am.

Today we stayed at our hotel in Hamburg-Bergedorf. In the afternoon I went so visit some places around here. The picture shows the castle of Bergedorf.

Today we visited the famous Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg. One of the important animal groups are the elephants.

April 21, 2017

Today we traveled down the Elbe river and walked back some mile towards the city. I wanted to see some vessels float up or down the river. The picture shows the only ship we saw. Our RV will be transported with a similar ship to Canada.

Today we visited the port of Hamburg. There in an old storage building is the world biggest model railway located. We visited it. The picture shows a part of the Italian section.

 

 

 

 

April 19, 2017

Today we delivered our mobile home to the shipping company in Hamburg Germany, which will ship it to Halifax in Canada. The original schedule was, that the ship leaves Hamburg on April 20. But today we got informed that the vessel is delayed and will leave two days later. This means we will get the RV back in Halifax on May 11 instead of May 10. The picture shows the RV in front of the shipping company.

April 17 + 18, 2017

On April 17 we traveled from Bad Falligbostel to Hamburg (92 km). Here we started to clean up our mobile home.

On April 18 we cleaned and reorganized our mobile home the whole day.

After 6 weeks at home in Switzerland, we started today our next journey venture. One the first day we traveled from Egnach in Switzerland to Triefenstein in Germany (358 km).
