Today we traveled from Panguitch to Cedar City (107 km). On the way, we visited the Cedar Breaks National Monument. The drive was on scenic roads through beautiful alpine landscapes. The Cedar Breaks National Monument is one big amphitheater which is a bit like Bryce Canyon. I did some hiking to get the best shot of this monument. Cedar Breaks National Monument is much bigger as my picture shows.

Today we traveled from Escalante to Panguitch (160 km). On the way, we visited the Bryce Canyon National Park. The Amphitheater is an amazing rock formation as my picture shows. Today was a nice and sunny day. But there were clouds in the sky which hid the sun sometimes. It needed some patients to take pictures in sunlight.

 

 

 

 

September 28 , 2017

Today we traveled from Hanksville to Escalante in Utah (204 km). On the way, we visited the Capitol Reef National Park. Here we saw a lot of interesting rock formations like the one in my picture. Rain and sun alternated today. We crossed a pass with an altitude of 6900 feet / 2103 m. Here we saw even snow and the temperature was 5 °C / 41 °F. Here in Escalante, the temperature is 16 °C / 61 °F.

Today we traveled from Blanding to Hanksville in Utah (229 km). On the way, we visited the Natural Bridges National Park. There are three natural bridges. They are down in a valley which is meandering through the landscape. There are nice trails down to the bridges. Unfortunately, it was a rainy day. Therefore we couldn't do everything and got wet anyway. And the roof window of our motorhome started to leak. This is the next problem to solve. The road to Hanksville is a scenic road which was amazing to drive. The picture shows the Sipapu Bridge in the Natural Bridges National Park.

Today we traveled from Moab to Blanding (230 km). On the way, we visited the Needles District of the Canyonlands National Park. This part was not breathtaking but we had a nice hike in wonderful weather and saw some interesting rock formations as the picture shows.

Today we traveled around the Arches National Park (172 km). The first third of the trip went along the Colorado River which flows through a very scenic gorge. The main attraction is the Fisher Towers which is the rock formation on the right side of my picture.

Today we visited the Canyonland Nationalpark (172 km). This Nationalpark has three different entrances. The one at Moab is called «Island in the sky». We did a lot of hiking and saw very nice and bizarre landscapes. The picture shows the Shafer Canyon.

Today we did two hikes. The first to the Corona Arch (5 km) which is west of Moab. And the second to the Delicate Arch (5 km) in the Arches National Park. The picture shows us at the Delicate Arch.

Today we drove back to Moab and visited the Arches National Park (87 km). At the second campground, we got hold of the last site! Then we went visiting the Arches National Park. The picture shows the rock formation called Park Avenue.

Today we traveled from Gunnison in Colorado to Green Rivers in Utah (435 km). Our goal for today was Moab in Utah. But we couldn't find a campground there. All were fully booked. Therefore we drove some 50 km further to Green River. The drive of today on scenic roads was different to the one of yesterday. Today we drove through valleys, gorges and over high plateaus. It was another wonderful day. The picture shows the red rocks at Bedrock.

Today we traveled from Alamosa to Gunnison in Colorado (275 km). Most of the time we traveled on a scenic road. We saw wonderful landscapes, high mountains, the trees were in their autumn colors and the sun was shining all day. It was just a perfect day. The picture tries to show a summary of what we saw today.

Today we traveled from Cascade to Alamosa in Colorado (341 km). We came here because we wanted to visit the greatest sand dunes in America in the Great Sand Dunes National Park. It's an amazing place. I walked up the dunes for a while until the strong wind did almost sandblast my legs. You can see the sandstorm in the foreground of my picture.

Today we traveled from Loveland to Cascade (216 km). In Colorado Spring we visited the «Garden of the Gods» as my picture shows. I was here about 20 years ago. But I had no more the right images in my head and the place itself did change too. Therefore it was nice to be here again.

Today we traveled from Estes Park to Loveland (49 km). But first, we drove into the Rocky Mountain National Park again. This time with our motorhome. We wanted to see some elks, which we didn't see yesterday. And we were lucky to see a lot of elks. One bull lay not very far from the road which led to the attached picture. In Loveland, we are at the same campground as Stefan and Edith. We had a fine dinner together.

Today we traveled into the Rocky Mountain National Park (36 km). Stefan and Edith came up from Fort Collins and took us with their car up the Trail Ridge Road to the Alpine Visitor Center at an altitude of 11769 feet / 3595 m. Then we walked up 20 minutes to a peak at 12005 feet or 3659 m. A very strong wind was blowing and the temperature was around 35 °F or 2 °C. It was quite a challenge to reach the summit. But we did it as the picture shows.

Today we traveled from Ogallala in Nebraska to Estes Park in Colorado (410 km). And we drove a bit through Wyoming. The land was mostly flat and used for agriculture, either cattle breeding or crop farming. But Estes Park is at the base of the Rocky Mountains. The picture shows a landscape in the region of Pine Bluffs in Nebraska.

Today we traveled from Interior in South Dakota to Ogallala in Nebraska (565 km). On the first half of our trip, we saw a lot of corn, wheat, and sunflower fields. On the second half, there was only cattle breeding. Nebraska has more cattle than citizens. The picture shows a landscape near Ellsworth with some cattle. We saw only black ones.

Today we said goodbye again to Edith and Stefan. They travel straight to Colorado. We traveled from Hermosa to Interior in South Dakota (156 km). On the way, we crossed the Badlands National Park. Badlands means that this land is bad for farming. But it has nice landscapes to look at as my picture shows. Today was a hot and sunny day.

Today we drove to Rapid City (31 km). We did visit the downtown. It has statues of all presidents of the USA around Main street. The picture shows a nice building. It seems it was once the house of the fire brigade. Now a brewery is located here.

Today we visited first the caves in the Wind Cave National Park and then we drove through the Custer State Park to see some wildlife (140 km). The Wind Cave is the 6th longest cave in the world (94 miles / 151 km). It's long and complicated but not really beautiful. In the Custer State Park, we saw Bisons, American Antelopes, and Donkeys. The donkeys were many years ago used to transport people into the State Park. Then they were released into the park. They are wild now. We saw a white or maybe albino donkey as my picture shows.

Today we traveled from Devils Tower in Wyoming to Hermosa in South Dakota (225 km). Last night we camped just underneath the Devils Tower. On the way to Hermosa, we visited the city of Deadwood. In Hermosa, we met Stefan and Edith again. The picture shows the campground underneath the Devils Tower.

Today we traveled from Riverton to Devils Tower (496 km). It was a nice drive through the Wind River Canyon, the Tensleep Canyon and over the Powder River Pass (9666 feet / 2946 m). The picture shows a scene in the Tensleep Canyon.

Today we traveled from Moran in the Grand Teton National Park eastwards to Riverton (237 km). We drove over the Togwotee Pass (9658 feet / 2943 m). Here the sky was blue. But now we are back in lower altitude (1500 m) and here the air is again filled with some smoke even we are hundreds of miles away from the wildfires. On the way, we saw a big flock of American antelopes. My picture shows a few of them.

Today we traveled from West Yellowstone in Montana to Moran in Wyoming (166 km). We traveled through the south part of the Yellowstone National Park and arrived directly in the Grand Teton National Park. The attractions here are the high mountains. Unfortunately, the valley was filled with smoke from the wildfires in Montana in order we couldn't see much of the mountains. We went then to see some animals. And we spotted some deer and bald eagles. We are at a campground directly at the Jackson Lake. After our dinner, we went for a walk along the lakeshore. Here I made the attached picture of the sunset.

Today is Labour Day in the USA. We as hard working retirees celebrated this day with doing just nothing. We just went into the village of West Yellowstone to stroll through the shops. The picture was shot yesterday and shows the Lower Yellowstone Fall.

Today we traveled the south loop of the Yellowstone National Park (282 km). We visited the Lower Yellowstone Fall, saw two large herds of Bisons and many geysers. The picture shows an extinct geyser in the Yellowstone Lake and some kayakers visiting it.

Today we did the north loop in the Yellowstone NP again (225 km). This time we started earlier in the morning and went the other way around. We saw a lot more than three days ago. Yellowstone National Park is not only animals and geysers. There are a lot of wonderful landscapes too. One I show in my picture.

Today was as always on the first day of the month the bookkeeping day. For this, we stayed at the campground. The picture was shot yesterday. On the way to Old Faithful, we saw this female wapiti deer laying on a grass island in the river.
