September 30, 2018

Since we didn't want to drive with our motorhome we took today in the afternoon a bus to Mexico City and from there a night bus to Nuevo Laredo (1110 km, 16 hours). The picture shows the North Bus Terminal in Mexico City.

September 29, 2018

Today we studied how we can go back to the border to get the TIP. The closest border is in Nuevo Laredo. We planned how to get there and decided that we want to go tomorrow. The picture shows a street in Mexico City and a high rising building, which has an observation deck.

September 28, 2018

Today we traveled by bus and Metro to two places in Mexico City where we thought we can get the TIP. But we had no success. Everyone told us that we have to go back to the border to get the TIP. I asked some people on the internet. All the answers were the same. We have to go back to the border. The picture shows the Art Museum in Mexico City.

September 27, 2018

We didn't get the TIP (Temporary Import Permit) for our RV when we entered Mexico. And later on, we never had a chance to get it. We always thought this is the fault of Mexico. But we learned the last days that this is our fault and that we could get a big fine if the police would find out. Therefore we have to get the TIP before we are able to travel further. Today we studied all the possibilities to get a TIP here in Mexico. The picture is from our yesterdays trip to Mexico City.

September 26, 2018

Today we visited the historic center of Mexico City. From the RV Park we took the bus and the metro to get there and back. We needed about 2 hours for one way. The picture shows the Cathedral of Mexico City at the Plaza de la Constitución.

September 24 + 25, 2018

We stayed two days in the RV Park in Teotihuacan. I try to do some repairs at our motorhome. But I don't have the right tools. Therefore I need a lot of time to achieve what I want. The picture shows the church which is only about 100 meters away from the RV Park. We are here with another couple from Switzerland and one from South Africa.

September 23, 2018

Today we took the bus from Teotihuacan to Mexico City and from here the Metro to Coyoacan. Here we visited Franziska Geiser who is working here since more than a year. She was once a student of mine at the university and later a friend in the alumni association. She showed us around in the part of the town she is living in. On the main square, there was a group of people dancing. Maybe they celebrated the beginning of autumn.

September 22, 2018

Today we visited the huge ruin city of Teotihuacan. It's just 2 km from the RV Park. We went there by taxi. The picture shows the Sun Pyramid, which is 63 meters high and is the second largest historic building in the pre-Spanish Americas. There is a Moon Pyramid and some others too. The pyramids and many other buildings are located along the Avenue of the Dead, which is 2 km long. We climbed on all pyramids and walks the whole Avenue of the Dead.

September 21. 2018

Today we first went shopping in Querétaro since here we found all these American chain stores (Walmart, Home Depot, and more). Then we drove to Teotihuacan (234 km). Here we are just about 40 km away from Mexico City. And here are the first Aztec pyramids. Since in Mexico is now rainy season it rains every afternoon a bit. The picture shows a situation where the sky gets dark and the rain starts.

September 20, 2018

Today we traveled from San Miguel de Allende to Querétaro (67 km). Here we went shopping in a Walmart and did visit the Aqueduct, which is the most important sightseeing point. It was built in 1730 and is 1250 meters long. The other sightseeing point is the historic city. But there was so much traffic in the town, that we headed out of town and went to the RV Park. By the way, we are here at an altitude of about 2000 meters. During the day it is about 25 °C and at night about 12 °C. This is quite comfortable.

September 19, 2018

Today we visited first the city of Guanajuato. A wonderful colorful city. Here the Spanish Kings had silver mines what made them very rich. One of the highlights of this city is the mummy museum. We didn't visit it but we met one at the overlook (see picture). Then we traveled to San Miguel de Allende (97 km). Here we experienced the sunset at the beautiful church «Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel». We had dinner just in sight of the church.

September 18, 2018

Today we went to visit the historic part of San Luis Potosi. The picture shows the Plaza de los Fondatores and the Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Loreto. There were more important churches in this town, but this one had the best illumination. Then we drove to Guanajuato (203 km). This town is very special. We saw very colorful buildings on different hills. But since the day was very gray I couldn't do nice pictures. We go tomorrow again to the town to get good pictures.

September 17, 2018

Today we traveled from Guadalajara to Mexquitic de Carmona which is outside San Luis Potosi (345 km). The first 300 km were on quite good roads. But for the last 30 km, our Navigator sent us over very bad roads. Sometimes there were more potholes than road. And we had to pass a flow of water which was about 20 cm deep. We came through some poor looking villages. In one we met this guy with the goats and sheep. Do you see how the road goes further on? Luckily we hadn't to take this one. There where the asphalt ends we had to turn to the left!

September 16, 2018

Today we visited the center of Guadalajara. This is the first historic town we visited in Mexico. But I think it will be everywhere about the same. The cathedral is the center of the town and all other attractions are arranged around it. Today is the Mexican National Holiday. We didn't see any events. Maybe they are later in the evening. The picture shows the cathedral of Guadalajara.

September 15, 2018

Today we traveled from Tepic to Tlaquepaque, which is outside of Guadalajara (204 km). The day began with a problem. We stood on a lawn. After all the rain of the last days, the ground was very soft. As I wanted to drive from our site our motorhome sunk in and couldn't be moved again. The manager of the RV Park towed us out. And the nice lawn didn't look that nice anymore. The drive was quite nice through hilly and green landscapes. We are now at an altitude of 1580 meters and the temperature is quite nice. Since in this region isn't an RV Park we liked to go, we booked again a hotel room. The picture shows a landscape on our drive today.

September 14, 2018

Today we traveled from La Cruz de Elota (San Miguel) to Tepic (348 km). The highway was much better than yesterday. There were only a few potholes. Therefore we drove further as we planned. We left the sea now and entered into a hilly country and climbed up to an altitude of 940 meters. We even saw some mountains. It did rain today and the temperature fell under 30 °C. We will have a cool night for which we longed since we are in Mexico. The picture shows the landscape just before we entered the city of Tepic.

September 13, 2018

Today we traveled from Los Mochis to San Miguel (330 km). This means we didn't manage to visit the Copper Canyon. There were too many questions open. And with our limited knowledge of Spanish, we couldn't get the right answers. Therefore we decided to travel further on. The trip was nothing special, only highways. In the end, we landed on a small RV Park at the sea again. The picture shows that we camp under palm trees at the sea.

September 12, 2018

Today we traveled from Etchoropo to Los Mochis (174 km). We came to Los Mochis because we wanted to take the Chepe train from here to visit the Copper Canyon. We read about an RV Park who organizes such trips. But we couldn't find this RV Park. We think it doesn't exist anymore. Since there is no other RV Park in this region we took a hotel room and try to find a way to visit the Copper Canon never-the-less. The picture was made in Etchoropo. I saw these birds in an irrigation channel. I think these are ibises.

September 11, 2018

Today we traveled from San Carlos to Etchoropo (273 km). First, we visited San Carlos. It is a very nice natural harbor with mountainlike hills around. Then we drove through an agriculture landscape with irrigation canals. Here in Etchoropa, we are on an RV Park at the Playa Huatabampito. The RV Park has some hotel rooms too. We decided to rent one of these rooms to have a night with air-conditioning. The picture shows the harbor of San Carlos.

September 10, 2018

Today we traveled from Santa Ana south to San Carlos (Guaymas) (307 km). First, we visited the old town of Santa Ana. Then we drove to Hermosillo. Here we visited Walmart. It was good to see that we can buy a lot of products we need here in Mexico too. Then we drove to San Carlos. When we arrived here at the RV Park we had a problem with the electricity. After a long search, we could solve it. But we missed a nice sunset. The picture shows the church of Santa Ana.

September 9, 2018

Today we traveled from Puerto Peñasco to Santa Ana in the state of Sonora in Mexico (285 km). First, we had to cross the Sonora desert. Here was the temperature at 40°C. Then we gained of altitude and it even started to rain. In Santa Ana, the temperature was a nice 23 °C. And there was a wonderful sunset, as the picture shows.

September 8, 2018

Today our motorhome got some new decorations. In the front a new Swiss flag and on one side a world map. The prints were made by my friends at Christinger Partner in Schlieren. Thank you. I hope people like police or military and other travelers see immediately from where we are and treat us accordingly.

September 7, 2018

Today we worked on our motorhome. I installed a new water tank flap. For this, I had to enlarge the hole in the outer wall of our motorhome. This was quite some work. And this at 35 °C temperature and in full sunlight. This was a lot of sweating. The picture shows the sunset seen from the campground.

September 6, 2018

Today our motorhome was repaired. The shock absorber I brought from Switzerland did solve the problem. The steering works now as it should. And the new battery does work fine too. We stay now some more days here to fix some smaller issues, we do ourselves. In the evening we drove our bicycles to the old city to have some delicious shrimp dishes. Here I shot the attached picture at sunset time.

September 5, 2018

Today we arrived in Puerto Peñasco. After a nice breakfast, we got our motorhome out of the storage. It looked good only a bit dusty. But I couldn't start the engine. The battery was low. For this situation, I have a booster. With this, I could start the engine and drive to the car workshop. There the engine couldn't be started again. After some investigation, we found out that the battery is dead. The workshop but a replacement battery in the car. With this, we run now. Tomorrow we get a new battery and the shock absorber for the left front wheel will be replaced too. The picture shows the hotel where we had our breakfast. I think it doesn't look Mexican!

September 4, 2018

Today we traveled by trolley to the border to Mexico. The immigration to Mexico was quite serious. We had to fill in forms, got stamps in the passports and had to pay for it. And for the part, I brought to fix our car I had to pay import tax. Then we took a taxi to the Central Bus Station in Tijuana. From here we took a night bus to Puerto Peñasco (7 hours). The picture shows the entrance to Mexico.

September 3, 2018

Today we flew from Zurich to San Diego in the USA. The immigration was the easiest and fastest I ever experienced in the USA in my life. We even got another half year visa without asking for it. Our hotel is in walking distance to the downtown where we went for dinner. The picture shows the view from the hotel towarts downtown San Diego.

September 1 + 2, 2018

On the first day of the month, I did, as usual, my administrative work. On September 2 we went to Engelberg (107 km). Our daughter Jennifer is a member of a student association. All the Swiss Student Associations together (77 associations) had their annual general meeting there and today they had a parade and a ceremony to honor their veterans. They did it in colors as they say. This means they wear uniforms, banners, and weapons. In the picture, they did the farewell song.
